Artists need to perform and we are pleased to present performances to audiences world-wide through live and recorded web streaming. With the newest rules of 16 untis per event, we are now allowing guests in the church for the concerts. Artists have a chance to now reach greater audeinces with live streaming as well as in house.

KeyMedia Public Relations Announcement—Tuesday, May 5, 2020 (New York, New York) – With all things chaotic, quiet and quarantined, St. John’s in the Village is teaming up with Musae and Denise Marsa Productions to create an exciting and viable new platform for musicians to continue to bring their music and talent to audiences safely while keeping their distance and continuing to earn income. “Thank you for such a wonderful experience. Yesterday was seamless and comfortable. I’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback from the viewers regarding everything – the sound, the camera work, the professional production, you name it. I’m absolutely overwhelmed with the success of this type of performance and look forward to many more soon. Again, thank you for everything. What you’re doing is keeping the arts alive and well in a tough time for us all. Bravo.” – Sam Gray, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto

Tenor Rufus Müller, in performance with violinist Manami Mizumoto, pianist Catherine Miller and cellist Sydney ZumMallen in little OPERA theatre of ny's Mozart & Friends.

ON JULY 9, the little OPERA theatre of ny, a.k.a. LOTNY, offered Mozart & Friends, an hour-long program livestreamed from St. John’s in the Village. Produced by Musae, a company specializing in interactive performances, the concert was (and still is) available for viewing in high definition or immersive virtual reality. (For a higher ticket price, LOTNY provides VR glasses for those who don’t own them.) With a little more advance notice, I would have opted for VR, since it does bring one a step closer to the actual experience, but the concert was perfectly lovely in two dimensions. read full review

A special note from Fr. Graeme Napier: Concerts at St John’s: Sponsor a Concert

St John’s Concert Series in the time of COVID-19. Since the pandemic began St John’s has invested in high quality audio-visual equipment and skilled personnel to enable us to continue as a patron of the arts here in the Village. This has enabled musicians (classically trained and of other traditions) to continue to perform, now to on-line audiences (in the USA and beyond). More recently, with all protocols for safe opening in place, these live-streamed concerts have also welcomed a small in-person audience (16 units). It has been a great joy to see Villagers once more enjoying live music in the beautiful acoustic of St John’s. The skilled personnel we engage (three sound/IT engineers per concert) are remunerated appropriately and this outlay is St John’s financial input to every concert. In short, each concert costs St John’s $300 to present. Thus far, a few generous benefactions have enabled us to cover all these fees, but that benefaction is coming to its end. If you would like to sponsor a concert ($300) either anonymously, or with your name associated with it, or perhaps in memoriam a departed loved one, or in celebration of a birthday or other life-event, or as a Christmas or Hanukkah present (eg concert in late December and January) we would be glad to hear from you. This will enable our concert series to persist through the time of the pandemic. With all concerts this would allow you to attend the concert gratis in person, and with most, by arrangement, with your own invited guests (gratis) in person (up to 14 or 16 units). Enjoy live music in a beautiful setting once more. Contact the Rector (rector@stjvny.org) if interested or seeking more information.
